Seems to contain a greater percentage of raw data (uncorrupted by interpretation) than does Montague Summers' The Werewolf, but is still dismissive of non-Christian spiritual concepts. Contains a summary of the historic events on which Guy Endor's fictional work The Werewolf of Paris is based. All things considered, not that bad.

  Apparently, a London published chapbook/pamphlet, detailing the deeds, capture, and execution of German Satanic Cannibal Werewolf Stubbe Peeter (aka Peter Stubbe, Peter Stumpf). Another source lists the title as: A True Discourse Declaring the damnable life and death of one Stubbe Peeter, a most wicked Sorcerer, who in the likeness of a Wolf, committed many murders, continuing this devilish practice 25 years, killing and devouring Men, Women and Children. Who for the same fact was taken and executed the 31 of October last past in the town of Bedburg near the City of Cologne in Germany. That title covers all, bar the details. :)

  It's a compilation of essays written from about 1949-1990 by people who've studied wolves, 'lived' with them for a time on photography assignments, wilderness writers. 18 essays in all. Only a few are reflective really. Most detail the daily lives of wolves and all show the real love that the human observers develop for the wolves. Without the extrapolations of what that "means." Reading it, I appreciated the authors' points of view. But me, I feel wolfy when I read it. I'm with them in the dens, on the hunts, swimming in the rivers. :) (24 Jan 2004)
